My name is Katherine Brookes and I run MWL Designs and have been designing greetings cards since 2007. I have always had a creative streak and as a child spent many an hour cross-stitching and knitting. My passion for card-making came from many hours in front of QVC and Create & Craft whilst job-hunting. It was just a hobby at first, making the odd card for friends and family then I decided to have a go at selling my cards online and at local craft fairs. It soon became my goal to turn my hobby into a business and in 2011 MWL Designs was born.
In 2012 I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of Theo Paphitis's Small Business Sunday winners on Twitter and was subsequently invited along to a very prestigious networking seminar, and more recently for the second time last November, to meet the man himself. Since then my passion to succeed has become clear and in 2013 I was nominated and shortlisted for Pride of Tameside Business Person of the Year award.
Last year I launched a new range of original framed artwork and now specialise in creating designs with a vintage & steampunk style.
My business has grown from strength to strength over the last few years and I now run the business full time alongside my other business MWL Events which in 2014 was shortlisted for two awards; Pride of Tameside Start-Up Business of the Year Award and E3 Awards New Business Start-Up of the Year. MWL Events also became a Small Business Sunday winner on Twitter in 2014 and I attended my 3rd SBS Event at the end of January to meet Theo Paphitis again and to collect another certicate.
